International Continence Society (ICS) 2019 Annual Meeting

  • Place:Gothenburg, Sweden
  • Name:Batoul El-Sayegh
  • Partner: CRIUGM and Université de Montréal
  • Target: Medical and rehabilitation professionals

Batoul El-Sayegh from the Incontinence and Aging Laboratory (Canada) had the opportunity to present a critical literature review on pelvic floor muscle dynamometry at the Annual Meeting of the International Continence Society (ICS) 2019 in Gothenburg, Sweden. This event brings together the most renowned international experts in the research and treatment of incontinence and pelvic floor disorders. The meeting is multidisciplinary and welcomes urologists, gynecologists, neurologists, physiotherapists, nurses, midwives, engineers and other scientists.

During her oral presentation, Mrs. El-Sayeh summarized the available pelvic floor muscle dynamometers in both research and industry and provided a complete analysis of the advantages and limitations of each. The results clearly demonstrate that this discipline is still in the ascent phase. More work is needed to reach the full technological maturity of pelvic floor muscle dynamometers in both research and clinical fields.

The ICS meeting’s participants showed interest in having a new reliable and valid pelvic floor muscle dynamometer that can distinguish pelvic floor muscle contractions from other artifacts.
